Assuming that the colored gauge group Gc is not necessarily the SU(3) but an arbitrary simple compact Lie group, we find that cases of Gc being one of the groups SU(2), SO(4l), SO(2l+1), Sp (2l), G2, F4, E7, and E8 Will lead to a difficulty with the quark-line rule. Therefore, only the groups SU(n) (n≥3), SO(4l+2) (l≥1), and E6 remain to be possible candidates for Gc. It is argued that the same restriction also applies to any unified simple group G of all strong, weak, and electromagnetic interactions.
