The motion of a classical particle in an external Yang-Mills Coulomb field and in the field of a Yang-Mills plane wave is analyzed with respect to the existence of asymptotic scattering states. In both cases the classical equations of motion are solved exactly. We show that in the Coulomb case asymptotic scattering states do not exist, owing to infrared divergences which in Yang-Mills theory have a very hard form at the classical-mechanics level.
