D 60, 104022 (1999) [10 pages]Twisted sectors in three-dimensional gravityReceived 19 April 1999; published 25 October 1999 Twisted sectors—solutions to the equations of motion with non-trivial monodromies—of three dimensional Euclidean gravity are studied. We argue that upon quantization this new sector of the theory provides the necessary (and no more) degrees of freedom to account for the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of three-dimensional black holes. © 1999 The American Physical Society URL:
