Phys. Rev. D 64, 124016 (2001) [9 pages]Note on embedding of M-theory corrections into eleven-dimensional superspaceReceived 29 May 2001; published 28 November 2001 By analyzing eleven-dimensional superspace fourth-rank superfield strength F-Bianchi identities, we show that M-theory corrections to eleven-dimensional supergravity cannot be embedded into the mass dimension zero constraints, such as the (γab)αβXabc or i(γa1⋯a5)αβXa1⋯a5c terms in the supertorsion constraint Tαβc. The only possible modification of the superspace constraint at dimension zero is found to be the scaling of Fαβcd like Fαβcd=(1/2)(γcd)αβeΦ for some real scalar superfield Φ, which alone is further shown not to embed general M-theory corrections enough. This conclusion is based on the dimension zero F-Bianchi identity under the two assumptions: (i) There are no negative dimensional constraints on the F-superfield strength, Fαβγδ=Fαβγd=0; (ii) the supertorsion T-Bianchi identities and F-Bianchi identities are not modified by Chern-Simons terms. Our result can serve as a powerful tool for future exploration of M-theory corrections embedded into eleven-dimensional superspace supergravity. © 2001 The American Physical Society URL:
