D 76, 044017 (2007) [6 pages]Traversable wormholes: Minimum violation of the null energy condition revisitedReceived 10 May 2007; published 22 August 2007 It was argued in literature that traversable wormholes can exist with an arbitrarily small violation of null energy conditions. I show that if the amount of exotic material near the wormhole throat tends to zero, either this leads to a horn instead of a wormhole or the throat approaches the horizon in such a way that infinitely large stresses develop on the throat. © 2007 The American Physical Society URL:
